The Gaia Amazon Fund, working together with its partner Fundación Gaia Amazonas, promotes governance processes and environmental stewardship in the Northwest Amazon, grounded in the traditional indigenous vision of environmental preservation.
We work to empower the indigenous populations of the Amazon in furthering their self-determination and fostering an innovative yet millennia-old model of preservation of biodiversity and cultural diversity. Our legal, technical and financial support allows the indigenous communities and organizations to define, develop and implement their own local and regional initiatives, projects and programs.
We have worked for twenty years on the following specific lines of action:
Indigenous governance
Territorial management and environmental preservation
Intercultural education
Intercultural health
Mapping and social cartography
Transboundary coordination among Amazonian countries
Institutional strengthening and recognition of traditional indigenous authorities.
Mujeres de la comunidad de Carrizal comentan, en idioma curripaco, las etapas de desarrollo de un niño, los diferentes nombres que les dan a niños y niñas mientras van creciendo y consejos para un mejor nacimiento y crianza de los pequeños.
