Social impact and strengthening of protected areas

Environmental governance for conservation and sustainability

To achieve the proposed goals, we seek to strengthen our alliance with National Natural Parks, Natural Patrimony and with others such as Alisos foundation and Etnollano, as entities with whom we work as a network and collectively take action to achieve local, national and regional impacts.

The strategy, as initially conceived by the alliance, was well received at the national level, and has been adopted and broadened to a more extensive network of State and civil society organizations. This network recently published its version of a “National strategy for the conservation and the cultural, environmental and economic sustainability of the Colombian Amazon”, supported by the National Government.

Continental system of protected areas

At the continental level, our strategy seeks to strengthen and expand the current system of protected areas, and consolidate the effective protection of more than 100,000,000 hectares of Amazon forest. In this process, Colombia’s experience in the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, through natural parks and examples of environmental governance in indigenous territories, can make a significant contribution to the rest of the Amazon region.
